Sports increase a child's physical literacy. Physical literacy is what kids learn from birth through adolescence about moving their bodies. By developing physical literacy, kids learn the skills they need to remain active for life. Kids learn many things over time and youth lacrosse can help develop a solid base. They learn to speak by closely watching and mimicking their parents. Similarly, kids aren’t born with a full skill set for physical activity. Lacrosse can help develop hand-eye coordination, foot coordination, and fine motor skills or physical literacy skills over time. Luckily, there is a lot we can do, as parents, to help kids develop the ability, desire and confidence to lead active lifestyles. - "Children's Healthcare of Atlanta"
Building confidence in our kids to be active is key if we want them to stay active for life. In addition to ability and desire, kids’ confidence to enjoy physical activity is an important part of physical literacy. Once your child develops the skills to be active, having fun and feeling confident are important pieces of the puzzle to raise kids who are active for life. Support from parents, coaches, teammates and peers throughout the development process plays a key role in building lifelong confidence. Try signing your child up for programs that welcome kids with different abilities and skill levels. Sports of all kinds will help develop confidence in children. Boosting kids’ confidence to get moving is easier than you may think. - "Children's Healthcare of Atlanta"
It is important for children to learn and develop coordination. Coordination training improves form and posture, enhances a child's mood and mental health, and is the foundation for all sports activities and exercises. The fundamentals learned in lacrosse is optimal for growing this skill set. The combination of bending, scooping, lifting, throwing then catching is key to learning through interaction. Our youth lacrosse combined with aspects of childhood education will promote fun activities and games to teach these skills and build confidence with their growing coordination.
One of the 5 advantages of lacrosse for kids is socialization. Is there a better way for a child to find social connection than with a team sport like youth lacrosse? Each team is only as strong as its weakest member, which makes each member an integral part of the overall team effort. An important lesson your child will learn through lacrosse is setting goals and how one can achieve those goals alone and with the help of others. Accomplishing a goal on a team at a young age paves the way to lifelong friendships. The bonds formed within a team can also help children in their everyday school life. Lacrosse places great value on teamwork, fairness and friendship. LAX is Family.
One of the best ways for children to enjoy a sport or educational program is through structure and "Good" discipline. Structure takes the anxiety out of the kids guessing what will happen next. Structure makes kids feel secure and they have more fun if they have "good" discipline in place. Many institutions of higher learning prefer student "athletes" in part because the student athlete knows how to manage their time due to the structure and discipline learned through their athletic training and dedication to skill development. Our youth lacrosse program is focused on structure that will help your child succeed in any sport or educational setting.
There have been studies that indicate high school athletes were 10% more likely to graduate than their peers who had never participated in sports. Athletes also demonstrate higher grade point averages than non-athletes. Other studies show kids who are very active typically perform better on standardized tests. Why would these facts be true? It could have to do with the way playing sports increases cognitive ability. The multiple limb coordination learned through lacrosse and figuring out how to maneuver through people in order to advance to a goal can lead to an expansion of cognitive ability. Exercise increases blood flow to the brain and activates endorphins, which can improve your mood and work performance as well. By training while young, your child is more likely to be willing and capable to tackle challenging problems. Youth lacrosse is the ultimate sport to help accelerate cognitive ability.
